NFL Alumni Detroit Chapter Scholarships$2,500

The NFL Alumni-Detroit Chapter supports two $2,500 scholarships, one for a male high school student athlete and one for a female high school student athlete.

The NFL Alumni- Detroit Chapter believes that student athletes should be recognized for their academic achievement and should be encouraged to pursue career goals beyond atletics.

High school student athletes who will not obtain an athletic scholarship to compete in athletics at the collegiate level are eligible.  High school student athletes who will participate in athletics at a college or university that does not give athletic scholarships are also eligible.

Eligibility Criteria:

1. Overall High School Grade Point Average of 3.0 or better OR ACT- minimum score of 20 OR SAT total score of 1500 minimum

2. Senior status

3. Accepted at a 2-year or 4-year college

4. Nominated by High School Coach

5. Participated at the varsity level in athletics for at least one year

6. Has NOT accpeted any scholarship funds or grants to participate in college athletics

Money Smart Ambassador 2012$2000-$4000

The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago- Detroit Branch and the Michigan Money Smart Advisory Counscil will be hosting ist tenth annual Money Smart Week April 21-28, 2012.  This weeklong series of classes highlights the importance of financial literacy and provides financial education to the public free of charge.  Over the past five years, Money Smart Week has educated thousands of consumers and students at over 1,400 events.

In conjunction with Money Smart Week, we are holding an essay contest to identify the 2012 Money Smart Ambassador.  the winner will be a financial literacy spokesperson and educator throughout 2012.  The Money Smart Week Ambassador will receive a $4,000 scholarship to an accredited college or university of their choosing.  The second place winner will receive a $2,000 scholarship.  These scholarships are generously provided by Fifth Third Bank, Christian Credit Counselors, and Junior Achievement of Southeastern Michigan.

This contest is open to high school juniors in Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne counties.  The contest is open to public and private high schools.  Children of the Money Smart Ambassador Committee, Michigan Money Smart Adviosry Council, or Money Smart Ambassador judging panel cannot enter the contest.

To enter, participants must submit a two-page, double-spaced essay in Arial font size 10 or larger on this topic:

"Give an example of when it is wise to borrow money and when it is not.  What factors do you need to consider in helping you make a responsible choice?  Please be sure to discuss the concepts of decision making and opportunity cost in your answer."

The deadline for entries in February 29, 2012.  All entries must be received or postmarked by that date.  Five finalists will be chosen in early March 2012 and be required to have an in-person interview at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, Detroit Branch (1600 E. Warren, Detroit).  An awards ceremony will be held during the Money Smart Week kickoff breakfast on April 20, 2012.  Attendance at this event is required for the winners.

Rosa Parks Scholarship Foundation$2,000

The Rosa Parks Scholarship Foundation offers a $2,000, non-renewable scholarship to graduating seniors.  Winners are selected on the basis of scholarship, leadership, financial need, and dedication to the civil rights principles of Rosa L. Parks, whose historic stand against racial prejudice in 1955 brought her national recognition.  The Foundation was established in 1980 to provide equal-opportunity scholarships to Michigan high school seniors.

Scholarships to be applied to first year of college only

 

APPLICANTS MUST:

1. Graduate by August 2012.

2. Have GPA of 2.5 or above.

3. Describe financial need.

4. Complete application form and essay.

5. Document community acitivities.

6. Confirm admission to university or college prior to August 2012.

7. Furnish official copies of high school transcript and ACT or SAT results

8. Furnish 3 letters of recommendation (at least one from a school representative; also suggest clergy, community and/or civic representative).

 

All requirements must be met, or application will NOT be considered.

EMU Alumni Association Legacy Scholarships$5,000

The Eastern Michigan University Alumni Association Scholarship was established in 1970 to encourage children and grandchildren of alumni to continue the EMU legacy.  Students who will be enrolled as entering freshmen, sophomores and transfer students at Eastern Michgan University in the fall semester may apply.  Demonstration of financial need is not required.

The award granted per recipient is $1,250 per academic year and may be renewed for four consecutive years for a maximum award of $5,000 if the renewal criteria outlined below are met.

Minimum Criteria

- Applicants must be admitted to the University.  A grade point average of 3.2 or better is required

- All applicants must submit a fully completed Alumni Association Scholarship application, current resume (detailing extracurricular activities), and an essay of 500 words or less answering the question "What does it mean to you to be an EMU Legacy?" via the online form found at emich.edu/alumni

- The student must submit a written letter of recommendation and an official copy of their hgih school transcript to the Office for Alumni Relations

- Applicatns must be sponsored by a parent or grandparent who is an Eastern Michigan Univeristy alumna/alumnus.

 

Award Conditions

Recipeints must enroll as full-time students (minimum of 12 credit hours both fall and winter semesters).  Recipients must volunteer once each semester for the Office of Alumni Relations.

The scholarship award will be renewed automatically for four consecutive years provided the recipient maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or better and is enrolled as a full-time student as described above.

First Community Federal Credit Union Scholarship$500

First Community Federal Credit Union takes pride in supporting the educational goals of our members and their families.  Because we believe stongly in the benefit of providing financial education to those within our communities, we are offering a $500 scholarship to any high school senior currently attending school within Wayne and Monroe counties in Southeast Michigan, and Allegan, Barry, Berrien, Branch, Calhoun, Cass, Kalamazoo, St. Joseph and Van Buren counties in Southwest Michigan.  Additional counties in Wisconsin and Illinois that fall witin the field of membership of First American Credit Union, a part of FCFCU, are also eligible.

The scholarship program is designed to provide support to the student as well as the high school they are currently attending ( Homeschooling MI for students who participate in home scooling) by gifting an additional $200 "Class of Excellence Award" to the scholarship winners' nominated high school teacher to purchase necessary classroom supplies or supplement their educational enrichment programs.

First Community Federal Credit Union is committed to bilding lifelong relationships with our members.  Giving back to our communitieis through our scholarship program is just one small way to kepp that commitment.

2012 Robert Ricano Hope Foundation Scholarship$500

Requirements:

*Student must be a Wayne County Resident

* Student must attend a high school in Wayne County

* Scholarship amount is $500

* 3.0 GPA

* Student will be attending a 2 or 4 year College, University, or Trade School

* Merit based; leadership, extra-curricular involvement, community service3, school or faith based involvement.

Rivers Edge Community Credit Union Scholarship$1,000

Rivers Edge Community Credit Union will award two graduating high school seniors a $1,000 scholarship.  To be leigible applicants must write a short essay (500-750 words) on the following topic:

 

"If I were President of the United States, how would I fix the country?"

 

Complete rules of the scholarship contest are as follows:

* Applicants must be a graduationg senior planning to attend an accredited institution after graduation.

* Essays must be 500-750 words, typed, and double-spaced.

2012 Michigan Retailers Association$1,000

Philosophy:

The Michigan Retailers Assocation Scholarshiop Program was established through the Michigan Retailers Foundation to achieve a number of highly desirable objectives.  First, it recognizes and aids deserving students who are eligible based on their own or their parents' employment with firms that are members of the Michigan Retailers Association.  The scholarships assisst the winners and their parents with college expenses.  The scholarships also indirectly aid the colleges attended by the scholarship winners.  For those Michigan Retailers Association members who wish to award their own scholarships, the scholarship program serves as the vehicle through which that is accomplished.

The philosophy of the Michigan Retailers Association Scholarship Program differs from traditional scholarship programs that reweard only the highest level of academic achievement.  Michigan Retailers Associatoin scholarship will be awarded to deserving students whos academic credentials fall within an average to above-average range.  In general, average and above average credentials are, for high school seniors, those that rank a student in the top half of their senior class.  Standardized test scores whould be at least 18 for the ACT Composite or, for the SAT combined Critical Reading and Math scores, at least 850.  Students enrolled in college should present college GPAs that rand from 2.5 to 4.0 on a 4.00 scale, in addition to having the proper high school credentilas.  Consideration also is given for extra curricular activiites, including, but not limited to, part-time retail employment.

Eligibility:

Those eligible to apply are high school seniors and college freshmen, sophomores, and juniors who are:

1) Dependent sons and daughters of owners of MRA member businesses, or of full-time employees of Michigan Retailers Assoication member firms.  The parent-employee must have been employed by a Michigan Retailers Association member firm for at least one year as of January 1 of the year in which the scholarships are awarded.

2) Part-time employees of MRA member businesses who are full-time students.  Part-time employees must have been employed by a Michigan Retailers Association member firm for at least six months as of January 1 of the year in which the scholarships are awarded.  If you need to verify Michigan Retailers Association member status, please call Michigan Retailers at 800.366.3699.

Detroit Economic Club Scholarship Program$2,000

Two tri-county students graduating in June 2012, and enrolling in college in the fall of 2012, will be selected to receive a $2,000 scholarship.  These scholarships are renewable for the three additional years that the recipients are in college.

Students may apply directly (no nomination form required) for the Detroit Economic Club Scholarship.  The scholarship criteria is:

* Strong academic performance (minimum of 3.2 cumulative grade pint average) and strong standardized test scores.

* Leadership demonstrated through extracurricular or volunteer activities and paid work experience.

* Demonstrated financial need based on the completion of the FAFSA at www.fafsa.gov and submission of the results as part of the scholarship process.

* Overcoming hardship to achieve both academic and personal goals.

Southern Wayne County Regional Chamber Scholarship Program$4,000

The Southern Wayne County Regional Chamber Scholarship Program is a scholarship program of the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan.  The purpose of the Southern Wayne County Regional Chamber Scholarship Program is to assist students from Southern Wayne County communities t pursue a program of undergraduate education.  Up to two renewable schoalrships of $1,000 each will be awarded to students entering college as a freshman in the fall of 2012.  Award determinations will be made with the assistance of the Southern Wayne County Regional Chamber Scholarship Program Advisory Committee.  In making the selections, the Advisory Committee will award one scholarship to a student who has overcome an "at-risk" barrier during their education career and one scholarship to a student who has pursued a vocational or career technical curriculum in high school.  Scholarhsip recipients may reapply in each of three addtional years, if appropriate.

 

Who May Apply?

To be eligible, applicants must be under the age of 22, a graduate of, or senior at, a high school in the Southern Wayne County Regional Chamber geographic area, and entering their first year of college infall 2012.  Applicants should have a career goal in business or a technical field.  Employees of the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan and their dependents as well as the members of members of the Scholarship Advisory Committee and their dependents are ineligible for scholarship consideration.  Employees of the Southern Wayne County Regional Chamber and their dependents are also ineligible for scholarship consideration.

What are the Criteria for Selection?

* Strong scholastic performance while in high school or significant academic improvement in each successive year, achieveing the equivalent of a 2.5 average in the last two years or at graduation.  School attnedance will also be an important consideration.

* Extra-curricular activiites, volunteer involvement in the community, and paid work experience.

* Priority will be given to selecting one recipient who has pursued a vocational or career technical curriculum in high school and one recipiient who is identified as having overcome at leat one of the following at-risk barriers:

Single parent family or family problems, as identified by an outside agency

Economically disadvantaged, as efined by federal govenment guidlines

Physical handicap

Substance abuse recovery

Ex-offender

Teen parent

Ward of the court or foster child

American Polish Engineering Association Scholarship$1,000

The American Polish Engineering Association is offering two scholarships at one thousand dollars ($1000.) each.  One scholarship will be offered to a male high school senior and the other will be offered to a female high school senior.  The initial requirement is that the student qualifies for the scholarship as outline in the General Requirements for APEA Scholarships found on page 3 of the application.

Each $1,000 scholarship may be applied to tuition, books, or fees.

The scholarship application, as well as any other scholarship correspondence, should be postmarked no later than Saturday, April 7, 2012.  The scholarship committee will then carefully review each application, transcript, and letters of recommendation.  One male and one female recipient will be selected based upon information contained therein.

AAA Michigan School Safety Patrol Scholarship$1,000

Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors who served as AAA School Safety Patrol members in Michigan.  Students must show documented proof of AAA Michigan Safety Patrol participation, good academic standing and a strong record of participation in the community and extra-curricular activities.

Rules

1. Must be a graduating high school senior from a public or parochial high school, or private preparatory school, within the service area of AAA Michigan under such reasonable and non-discriminatory rules and regulations as are formally developed by the Committee, and accepted by an institution of higher learning.

2. All applications must include:

* A letter of reference from a school teacher, counselor or principal

* A letter of reference from a community representative

* Personal letter of introduction describing community participation, extra-curricular activiites and what being a Safety Patroller meant to you.

*Parent's/Guardian's signature

* School Counselor's signature

* Copy of junior year transcript- must achieve 3.0 GPA

* Copy of ACT score- must achieve 21 or better score; or SAT- must achieve 950 or better score.

*Documented proof of participation in AAA's School Safety Patrol program.

3. Must have a strong record of participation in the community and extra-curricular activities.

4. Children and family members of AAA Michigan employees, officers, and board members are not eligible

5. All applications must be recieved on or before April 13, 2012

6. Recipient will be contacted by mail no later than June 8, 2012.  Scholarship will be awarded in the name of the student and the institution of higher learning.  Recipient must provide proof of acceptance to an accredited institution of higher learning.

7. Recipient should check with a tax advisor regarding the possible tax implications of this gift.

8. Scholarship m ust be claimed by September 14, 2012.

9. Applications are the property of AAA Michigan and will not be returned.

10. Scholarship is not transferable or redeemable for cash at any time.

11. By submitting scholarship application, participants expressly agree to the rules and to the decisions of the committee.

Richard Colina Memorial Scholarship- Michigan State University$8,000

An endowed scholarship has been established by Karen Colina Wilson, president of Central Distributors of Beer, Inc. and John Colina, in memory of their father Richard Colina.  The scholarship award is approximately $8,000 for one year only, to be used for attendance at Michigan State University.  The award is not renewable.  All scholarship applicants must be incoming freshmen, residents of Wayne County, and graduates of one of the following school systems:  Allen Park, Belleville, Cherry Hill- Inkster, Clacrenceville-Livonia, Dearborn heights, Ecorse, Garden City, Gibralter, Grosse Ile, Inkster, Lincoln Park, Livonia, Northville, Plymouth/Canton, River Rouge, Riverview, Romulus, Southgate, Taylor, Trenton, Wayne/Westland, Woodhave, Wyandotte, Aquinas-Southgate, Catholic Central- Redford, Gabriel Richard- Riverview.

 

Scholarship recipient selction is the responsibility of the Office of Financial Aid at Miichigan State University.  Awards are based on both financial need and academic excellence.   All applicants must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for 2012-13

B. Davis Scholarship$1,000

This Scholarship is available to all high school juniors and seniors as well as all students currently registered in any post secondary institution.

* There is no age restriction

* Be sure to include your name and the school you are attending this year and next

* This is not an academic scholarship but we would like to know where you are going to school now and what your future academic plans are.

Please do not send transcripts or letters of recommendation at this time.

Stefan Wanczyk Foundation$2,000

Criteria:

* Student must have a minimum 2.5 GPA

* Must have attended a Wayne County area high school

* Must demonstrate a hardship, which could otherwise prevent the student from attending college

* Must attend college full-time beginning with the fall semester of 2012.

Jeptha Wade Schureman Scholarship$7,500

The Schureman Scholarship Program provides children who have lost their fathers because of death or loss of parental rights with a scholarship of $7,500 for use at one of the 15 public universities in Michigan.

Candidates must also:

* Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid for 2012-2013 and deonstrate need at the chosen university.  The FAFSA will be available as early as January 1, 2012 at www.fafsa.gov

* Demonstrate strong scholastic achievement by maintaing a grade point average of 3.0.

* Demonstrate leadership and character through extra curricular activities, service in school and in the community, volunteer involvement and paid work experience.

*Select a major that leads to a career in law, dentistry, nursing or medicine.

BigSun Scholarship$500

The BigSun Organization is proud to be able to continue to help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits.  We are offering an annual scholarship to a deserving student.  All student athletes are eligible for this award, regardless of which sport they are participating in.

 

The successful applicant will be a high school senior or be attending a post secondary institute and currently involved in some sport at that institution or in the community.

AES Engineers scholarship$500

Scholarship Criteria
Our belief is that achieving a high grade point average should not be the only criteria for determining who deserves to be helped. For that reason we are offering a scholarship that will be awarded on the basis of character, as determined by evaluated the essays that are submitted.

Scholarships are intended for our future leaders across a wide spectrum of fields of study. This award is available to high school seniors and all students attending a post secondary educational facility.

You are not required to be taking Engineering courses to be eligible.

 

How to Apply
Students must submit an essay of no more than 1000 words in answer to the following question:

What are your dreams for your future? When you look back on your life in thirty years, what would it take for you to consider your life successful?
